Not every patient needs the same help. A man recovering from surgery needs a nurse, an elderly mother needs a caregiver, and a new baby needs a trained nanny. This guide explains the main types of home care services so you can choose with confidence. If you are new to the topic, start with our guide on what home care services are.
The main types at a glance
| Type | What it covers | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Home nursing | Injections, saline, wound dressing, observation, as prescribed by a doctor | Post-surgery and medical needs |
| Caregiver service | Bathing, feeding, moving, hygiene, medicine reminders | Elderly, bedridden and dependent patients |
| Elderly care | Daily help, companionship, safety | Senior citizens at home |
| Baby and newborn care | Feeding support, hygiene, night care | New parents and working parents |
| Physiotherapy | Exercises and rehabilitation | Stroke, joint pain, recovery after surgery |
| Doctor home visit | Check-ups and consultations | Patients who cannot travel |
1. Home nursing
A nurse gives medical care at home as directed by the doctor. This can include injections, IV fluids, wound dressing, catheter care and checking vital signs. It is the right choice after surgery, or when the patient needs regular medical tasks. See our nurse at home service or our nursing home care service.
2. Caregiver service
A caregiver helps with everyday living: bathing, dressing, feeding, toilet help, changing position and walking. Caregivers can remind a patient to take medicine, but they do not give injections or make medical decisions. Read more about the caregiver service in Dhaka.
3. Elderly care at home
Older people often need steady help and friendly company more than medical treatment. An elderly care caregiver helps with routines, safe movement, meals and companionship. See our elderly care service.
4. Baby and newborn care
A trained nanny or baby care nurse helps with feeding, bathing, diaper changes, hygiene and night care, so parents can rest or work. See our baby care home service.
5. Physiotherapy at home
A physiotherapist visits the home and guides exercises for stroke recovery, back and joint pain, or recovery after surgery or an accident. See physiotherapy at home.
6. Doctor home visit
A doctor visits for check-ups and consultations when the patient cannot travel easily. See our doctor home visit service.
How to choose the right type
- Does the patient need medical tasks? Injections, IV, wound care or catheter care need a nurse.
- Does the patient mainly need daily help? Choose a caregiver.
- Is a baby or new mother involved? Choose a nanny or baby care nurse.
- Is movement the problem? Add physiotherapy.
- Not sure? Ask the doctor, or ask the agency to recommend a mix.
Many families combine two types, for example a nurse in the day and a caregiver at night, or a caregiver plus weekly physiotherapy.
Frequently asked questions
Can one person do all of these? No. Nurses, caregivers and physiotherapists are trained for different tasks. A good agency matches the right person to each need.
Which type is cheapest? A caregiver is usually less costly than a nurse for the same hours. See our pricing plans for current packages.
Can I change the type later? Yes. Many families start with one type and add another as the patient’s needs change.
