When a parent grows older, a family member comes home from hospital, or a new baby arrives, families often ask the same question: can we get proper care at home? In Bangladesh, the answer is yes. This guide explains what home care services are, who they help, and how to get them.
What are home care services?
Home care services are health and personal care services given at the patient’s home instead of a hospital or care facility. A trained nurse, caregiver, physiotherapist or doctor comes to the home and helps with the patient’s daily and medical needs, as the family and the treating doctor direct.
What do home care services include?
- Nursing care: injections, saline, wound dressing and observation of blood pressure, sugar and temperature, as prescribed by a doctor.
- Caregiver support: help with bathing, dressing, feeding, moving around and medicine reminders.
- Elderly care: daily help, companionship and safety for senior citizens.
- Baby and newborn care: a trained nanny or baby care nurse for feeding support, hygiene and night care.
- Physiotherapy at home: exercises and rehabilitation after stroke, surgery or injury.
- Doctor home visits: check-ups and consultations when travel is difficult.
Who needs home care services?
- Patients recovering after surgery or a hospital stay.
- Elderly people who need daily help.
- Bedridden patients and people with long-term illness.
- Stroke patients who need nursing and exercise support.
- New mothers and families with newborn babies.
- Families who cannot be with the patient all day or night.
Why families choose home care
- Comfort. The patient stays in a familiar place, with family close by.
- Personal attention. One nurse or caregiver focuses on one patient.
- Less travel and waiting. No daily trips to a clinic for injections or dressing.
- Flexibility. You can choose day, night, 12-hour or 24-hour care, and change it as needs change.
When home care is not enough
Home care supports recovery and daily living, but it does not replace a hospital in an emergency or for intensive treatment. If the patient is very unwell, has trouble breathing, or the doctor advises hospital care, go to the hospital. In an emergency in Bangladesh, call 999.
How home care services work in Dhaka
- Call or message the agency. Tell them about the patient, the area and the hours you need.
- Get a recommendation. A good agency suggests a nurse, a caregiver or a mix, and explains the price.
- Meet the person. Ask to see ID and training, and talk to them before they start.
- Care begins at home. The agency follows up to make sure you are happy.
How much do home care services cost?
Costs depend on the hours, the type of care and the patient’s condition. See our pricing plans for current monthly packages.

Do home care services need a doctor’s prescription? Medical tasks such as injections and IV care need a prescription. Daily personal care from a caregiver does not.
Can I choose a male or female nurse? Usually yes, subject to availability. Tell the agency when you call.
